This month, the 16 best Dota 2 teams in the world are heading to Shanghai, China, where they’ll compete in the most prestigious Dota 2 tournament. The International (TI) 2026 is organised by Valve and takes place between 13 and 23 August. It features a group stage followed by the playoffs, which are held at the Oriental Sports Center.

Team Liquid started the season strongly with wins at BLAST SLAM VI, a 3rd place finish at DreamLeague Season 28, and a runners-up finish at PGL Wallachia Season 7. However, their performances dropped off, and they’re now outside the top contenders according to the opening odds. They have an elite roster though, with players fully capable of dominating lanes and winning championships. Vici Gaming returns to compete at The International 2026 following a 5-year hiatus. They’re significant underdogs according to the opening odds, but can’t be counted out as they showed at the 2026 EWC. They shocked multiple big teams, including Team Falcons, to finish 4th. Vici Gaming play hyper-aggressive strategies, aiming to control the map, and their roster has excellent tournament-winning experience.
1win Team has a roster capable of winning tournaments, with team captain 33 winning TI 2022 and 2024. Their strategy revolves around 33’s ability to secure lanes while the rest of the team suffocates enemy resources. They’re ranked as the 7th favourites according to the latest betting odds, but they have a good chance to create an upset.
Teams to watch at The International 2026
PARIVISION are the betting favourites and our Dota 2 picks to win the tournament. They’ve shown excellent draft flexibility and mechanical dominance this season, and recently won the EWC. Although they missed out on a direct invite earlier in the season, they’re arguably peaking at the perfect time to perform well at The International.
Team Yandex are the 2nd favourites according to the opening betting odds. They were invited to TI 2026 based on their early-season performance and this year have won PGL Wallachia Season 7 and BLAST SLAM VII. They also finished in 3rd place at the Esports World Cup, with players like watson and Saska standing out. Saska has previously won TI 3 times, while watson excels at helping the team scale to control the late game.
BetBoom Team finished as runners-up at the Esports World Cup, but they’re currently 3rd favourites to win TI according to the latest Dota 2 odds. This year, their only win was at PGL Wallachia Season 8, but they also finished 3rd at BLAST SLAM VII. The addition of Kiritych to their roster last year has helped bring discipline and stability to their playing style. Team Spirit are currently the joint 4th betting favourites to win TI this August. The 2-time TI champions fought hard through the Europe regional qualifier to make it to the tournament. While they’ve yet to win a tournament this year, they won TI in 2023 and 2022, so it would be unwise to rule them out. Their roster features Yatoro, who is considered one of the best hyper-carries in the history of Dota 2. Team Falcons are the defending champions, having won TI 2025. Despite this, they’re only the 4th favourites, level with Team Spirit in the opening outright betting odds. That’s because they haven’t won a tournament this year, and were recently knocked out of the EWC by the huge underdog Vici Gaming. It’s hard to count Team Falcons out though, especially as their roster is unchanged from their TI win. Their strategy focuses on map isolation, with an offlaner who farms the opponent’s jungle aggressively.

The International begins with a Swiss-system stage, where teams compete over 5 rounds. The top 3 advance automatically to the playoffs, while the 4th to 13th teams must compete in an elimination round for a chance to make the playoffs. In total, only 8 teams will progress to the playoffs.
